Editorial Review for Cloo's Coney Island Hot Dogs – by Kira Krauss
In Short
This tiny eatery in Mission Valley could easily get overlooked, yet it always seems to be packed. Cloo's lures them in with tasty dogs, sinful chili cheese fries and possibly the only sliders (think White Castle) in the Triangle. Other popular items are the Philly cheesesteak and the gyros. Detroit and local sport paraphernalia line the walls of this bustling NC State hangout.

I go to Cloo's because it's the only place in town that serves Detroit style Coney Dogs. I am intensely annoyed every time I go, because the service is so slow. The only way I can explain this is because Cloo is from Detroit, and couldn't hack it serving up Coney Dogs the way they're meant to be served: FAST. It took 30 minutes to be served 5 hot dogs, and fries!!! This is totally unacceptable. The coney dogs were good, but the loose burger was dry. There are plenty of smart MBA students at State that can teach you a bit about process optimization. Get the food out faster, and you'll have better turn over, and higher profits, and a much better customer experience. The whole concept of cook to order you're trying to emphasize is dated, and pure lazieness. Plus, I don't think it it'll k1ll you to update the place - it's a total dive. Go visit Athens Coney Island on 13 and Woodward next time you're back in Michigan; they'll show you how it's done.
Pros: not as good as, but approximates detroit style coneys
Cons: cook to order service is insultingly slow

This restaurant is a fantastic pick for people who aren't watching their calories and want a tasty indulgence. The cheese fries are phenomenal (Made with ACTUAL shredded cheese, not any of that nacho cheese sauce!) , and my boyfriend loves the chili cheese fries as well. The staff is friendly and conversational. Sometimes it's hard to find a table because the place can get pretty packed on the weekends, but otherwise this place is completely worth the trip. Though my favorite items at Cloo's involve meat (great sliders, chili dogs, etc.), there are also quite a few option for vegetarians as well.
Pros: Cheese fries, sliders, serving staff
Cons: Somewhat long lines and not enough tables at peak times
