Editorial Review for El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant – by Trevor Holland
In Short
Don't let the thinly painted peach exterior prevent you from indulging in a fine, authentic, Mexican dining experience. Traditional sombreros and soccer flags hang beside mirrored walls, and there's plenty of booth seating to provide a little privacy. After plowing through the chips and salsa, choose from a number of combination dinners consisting of three items, from enchiladas, burritos, tamales, quesadillas, chalupas to chile rellenos. There are also more than a dozen vegetarian dishes available.

Incredible food that is even better than what I have had in Mexico combined with fast and friendly service is what makes El Rodeo the best Mexican restaurant in Raleigh and particularly this individual location. Tequila drinks are well made and portioned and so is the food. The chips are always hot and fresh and they keep the salsa coming. If you love great cheese dip and guacamole they have you covered there too. I have been eating there for years and this is the place to go if you want the best Mexican food. They have also redecorated over the past two years and now sport a very artistic and tasteful decor and interior that I really like. You can't go wrong with El Rodeo.
Pros: Friendly Staff, Attentive Waiters, Great Food, Nice Decor
Cons: None but parking can be a challenge on weekend nights.

I'm assuming most of the people who are writing all the positive reviews are Southerners who have never had truly good Mexican food. The food at El Rodeo is - AT BEST - average. The quality has varied the several times I've gone, and the quality and atmosphere differs depending on which one you go to. The one on Wake Forest is straight-up depressing. If you're looking for Burritos, the best place I've found in Raleigh is Baja Burrito. If you're looking for high quality Mexican food with a great vibe, the best choice by a mile is Dos Taquitos.
Pros: service
Cons: food, atmosphere
