I totally agree to one of the previous reviews - "Does not allow diversity". I went there and it was very clear from conversation (at entrance) that they did not want me to enter - very racial. I was well dressed and all so there was no reason. Looking at me they said (at entrance), "we take only members". I said I am ready to pay. But then there was another question and another after that. They were asking me questions just to make me realize that "I am not allowed" . It was very clear. I was curtious to say thanks and found my way out.
Cons: lack of open mindedness

A bar of this kind was long overdue in the Triangle ~ especially in Durham. Kudos to the owner and folks who work there for providing the community with such a clean, fun and welcoming place to be ourselves.
Pros: two poolrooms, plenty of bathrooms, great staff
Cons: allows smoking

I go out to Steel Blue a good bit and I think it is a great place to dance and enjoy a few drinks! It is always packed and the music is always both diverse and fits the crowd well! I have requested songs many times and the DJ has always been more than willing to play what I request. I have never been on a night where only Hip Hop was playing or on a night where I thought the drinks were "watered down" - the Owner, Manager and staff have always been very nice and accommodating in every way! You can pick and polk all you want about this place but at the end of the night...everyone seems to have had a GREAT time!!

If the owner would stop screaming drunken announcements, if the music wasn't all hip-hop, it wouldn't be all that bad. I like this bar, don't get me wrong, but it has its cliques, shoot, even one review here is from a friend from the Independent. I call it as I see it - unbiased. Not a bad place, as I said - but 'girls will be girls' and they often travel in three's. Lots of cliques.

I've been to Steel Blue several times since they first opened last August, and have had nothing less than an exceptional experience each time. The club itself is HUGE... with a giant dancefloor and mezzanine that wraps around almost the entire perimeter. There's plenty of space to dance ~ and several different areas where you can go to get away from the action should you want a quieter place to catch up with friends. They even offer a non-smoking pool room. (As a non-smoker, I think that's great.) I disagree with the first posting in that, I think Steel Blue is a welcoming place for LGBT peeps of all different ethnic backgrounds. The staff are all very helpful and courteous... and they DO take song requests: All you have to do is write yours on the clipboard at the bottom of the DJ stairwell. If you're looking for a place that's fun, comfortable ~ and generally always hoppin' by 11ish on a Saturday night ~ Steel Blue is where it's at. (Oh yeah ~ and they also bring in tons of live LGBT musicians, comedians, etc on Friday nights too...)
Pros: spacious, great service, great music, courteous staff, reasonably priced
Cons: none to mention

This cub was very spacious , the second floor was intimate . Yes it was a large crowd ! we even ran into some college basketball players. I am not a "drinker" but my fiends said the drinks were a little watered down but reasonably priced. It was nice that they had complimentary fruit baskets at the bar. I enjoy various facets of music.............but The music was very "top 40" and got a little techno at times . I found the club not culturally diverse at all! i was accompanied by friends from various ethnic backgrounds ( Latino, asian, black, indian and african). The staff several times over looked our request at the bar and so many patrons were "non-social" even a little ostracised . We requested some music and the DJ stated that they did not take request. I can honestly say we left there feeling like we were not welcomed. I gave the establishment a second and third try with different friends and still left feeling like we "crashed the party" ............................. so i give the club 5 stars for the building and 3 for the ambiance but 1 stars for Hospitality.
Pros: AMBIANCE, SPACIOUSE
Cons: PARKING, SERVICE, NO DIVERSITY!
