This is the best chinese buffet in the triangle. I have visited alot of them and 35 is the only one I would recommend. They serve quality food and it is a very pleasant environment. Great customer service everytime I have visited.

I have eaten at 35 Chinese on several occasions and it has been terrible each time. The food is cheap and they leave it out under the lights for hours so that by the time you get it, it's tough, chewy, lukewarm, and foul. One time, I actually had a staple fried into the batter of my sweet and sour chicken! Then they tried to deny it was their fault! Seriously, this place gets good ratings because undergrads can eat a ton for cheap, but it is very disgusting. AVOID!!!
Pros: None
Cons: The food.

Let me begin by saying that I hate buffets. They usually provide lots of quantity with very little quality. However, 35 is an exception. Like any buffet, it is best to dine during peak hours when the food turns over quickly. At those times, you will find that the food is fresh and well-prepared. Although the majority of it is geared to American tastes (lots of batter-fried then sauced dishes), there are a some traditional Chinese dishes as well. They always have very tasty appetizers (steamed shrimp dumplings, shu mai, chicken wings, spring rolls, potstickers, etc.), good Singapore noodles, several chicken, pork and beef entrees, some seafood entrees (including squid, steamed fish, head-on salt & pepper shrimp), and really wonderful vegetables (snow peas, asparagus, green beans, eggplant, spinach). They have a small assortment of fresh and canned fruit, cakes, pastries, and ice cream (or is it frozen yogurt?). The price is so reasonable that this is one of the best dinner values in Chapel Hill.
Pros: Inexpensive, tasty, wide variety, quick, accomodates large groups

If you like american-ified chinese food in a crummy campus setting - this place is for you! Make sure you eat the stuff that is cooked REALLY well - like sweet and sour fried chicken - though, I guess you could go next door to Time Out for that.
Pros: Enough soy sauce to kick a mule!
Cons: Increased Bowel movements!

I stopped by 35 and had both buffet and regular Chinese meal with my family on last Suday, and realized the kitchen is totally unclean. Saw the kitchen through a gap, where workers' hands were not wash before food preparation. Then, we just left there, never come back again. The food were not that great either.
Cons: Not clean

Though I am usually happy with any Chinese food, 35 was truly disappointing. The food on the buffett is unflavorful and old. My husband ordered off the menu and was equally disappointed. Don't go here!

I had stopped in a few times with out-of-town friends because the buffet is plentiful, cheap, and 'good enough'. I was invited there for a dinner with a very large group of friends and one asian couple with us told us to avoid the buffet and hit the menu. They were right! The dishes were presented with flavorful sauces and I was totally shocked with my new appreciation for their food. So, send your kids to the buffet, but go for the menu!
Pros: Cheap, Plentiful, Great Menu

We visit 35 almost every week. We even have a regular waiter, Rich, who has taught our 7 year old some chinese. The service is always wonderful and the food is incredible. The price is reasonable, especially at lunch and they have a kid's buffet as well for those who don't like chinese food.

35 Chinese is a great buffet that uses no MSG in its food. And you don't miss it! The food focuses on presentation, color, and freshness instead. There is a large selection, the service is great, and the place doesn't have that dragons-and-paper-lanterns look. Instead, original art is on the walls and the colors are soft yet interesting. I can't recommend this place enough.
Pros: food taste, no MSG, value
Cons: crowded on weekends

35 is an awesome buffet. As with most buffets, the spice is very mild, so if you like it spicy order off the menu.
