Prior to checking out of my room at the Civic Center-Mariott hotel in Durham, North Carolina, I took off my engagement ring and left it on the bathroom counter to wash my hands; I had started to put on lotion, but was interrupted by a maid knocking on my door, to clean. I grabbed my suitcase and headed out, but left my ring on the counter, a couple of hours later I realized this and rushed back to the hotel, I informed a manager, who told me he would check with security, apparently, the maids report lost items to security after cleaning each floor. It took forever and I’m not sure why noone but security could ask the maid, and security couldn’t tell me this in person, but the manager came back to tell me the ring was not found. It has been 4 sad days and still noone has turned in my ring. I spent 3 nights at this hotel, the food is not that great, I didn’t use the fitness center, the business center is decent, the hotel is decent, some of the staff are nice, but I would take care in leaving valuable items in your room, even while checked in.
